AP WORKFLOW SOLUTIONS

AP brings connected newsrooms to NAB New York 2026.

AP Workflow Solutions is heading to NAB Show New York 2026, Javits Center from October 21-22.

Join the team to explore AP Storytelling, governed AI workflows and the Story Object Model.

Why story context matters across the newsroom.

A single story can take many forms as it moves through planning, reporting and production. Broadcast scripts, digital articles, video and social updates may all draw on the same reporting, but the information behind them often sits in different systems.

At NAB New York, we’ll be showing how AP Storytelling brings these activities together in a shared workspace, connecting assignments, media, scripts, rundowns and different versions of a story.

Built around story-centric workflows, the platform helps journalists and producers work from shared information, reducing duplicated effort and making it easier to coordinate coverage across platforms.

AP Storytelling connects planning, reporting, media and production around the developing story.

The Story Object Model: Connecting information across systems

What if newsroom systems could share not only content, but also the context and editorial decisions behind it?

AP helped propose and co-championed the Smart Stories IBC Accelerator project, which developed the Story Object Model alongside other news organizations and technology providers.

The model provides a common way for systems to represent and exchange story information, including verified facts, supporting media and editorial status.

For example, when a verified fact changes in a developing story, that update may affect several broadcast, digital and social outputs. The Story Object Model explores how connected systems could recognize those relationships and help editorial teams identify which versions need attention.

Journalists would still review the information and decide what should be updated or published.

This work is an important step toward greater newsroom interoperability, reducing manual coordination and helping AI systems understand the context of the journalism they’re supporting.

AI workflows guided by our editorial standards.

As news organizations explore AI-native newsrooms, the challenge is not simply introducing AI tools, but making them useful within established editorial processes.

AP Storytelling brings AI assistance into the story and production environment, where agents can support tasks such as summarizing developments, suggesting headlines and preparing alternative versions of content.

Through configurable AI workflows, newsrooms can define how agents operate, what information they use and how their outputs are reviewed.

AP’s approach to governed AI draws on the editorial standards and working practices of its own newsroom.

Organizations can build on that experience while applying their own policies and retaining control over editorial decisions.

AP is a co-champion of the IBC Accelerator Smart Stories initiative, contributing to the development of a shared model for story information across newsroom systems.

AP Storytelling uses AI agents to give journalists helpful suggestions, headlines, SEO terms or story follow ups. Our agents are governed by strict AP editorial policies which customers can choose to adopt or adapt.
