AP WORKFLOW SOLUTIONS

IBC 2026: AP Storytelling and Iconik — media that finds the story.

Iconik is now integrated with AP Storytelling, helping journalists seamlessly discover relevant media without leaving the story they’re working on.

Bring the right media into the story workflow.

When a story breaks, finding the right footage should not mean leaving the story, opening another system, searching the archive, copying information across, then coming back to finish the piece.

At IBC 2026, we’re showing a new integration between AP Storytelling and Iconik that brings those steps closer together. While a journalist works on a story, relevant video and photos held in Iconik can surface directly inside the Storytelling workspace, matched to the story they already have open.

For the journalist, the change is straightforward. Your media library becomes part of the story workflow rather than a separate destination.

A producer covering a major storm, for example, could open the developing story and see relevant archive footage, raw video and finished media from Iconik alongside the reporting and planning already underway. The useful assets can then be brought into the story or added to its shared attachment pool, where they are available for the web article, social version or broadcast package.

Iconik is now a integrated with AP Storytelling.

“It has been great working with the Iconik team to bring this integration to life. The newsrooms we serve are always looking to use industry-leading innovative asset management solutions like Iconik.

Together, we’re creating a connected, ‘single pane of glass’ environment that reduces tool fatigue and keeps journalists focused on the story.”

Your media should understand the story you are working on.

The Iconik integration takes advantage of a new framework that allows other newsroom tools to work with the live context of a story inside AP Storytelling and present a simplified and unified experience to users.

That matters because newsroom integrations have traditionally been good at passing files, placeholders and status information between systems. The next step is helping those systems understand more about the editorial work happening around those assets.

With this approach, the tool connected to Storytelling can respond to the story as it develops. Instead of asking a journalist to search from scratch in another application, the media library can use the context of the open story to surface material that may be relevant.

It supports a broader goal for AP Storytelling: everything for the story in one working environment. Planning, assignments, notes, versions and media already sit around the story as the organising unit. Bringing media libraries more deeply into that workflow reduces another set of tabs, searches and repeated steps for the people producing the journalism.

AP Storytelling: As you write your story, relevant media in Iconik is immediately surfaced.

Bring your media library closer to the story.

Newsrooms have invested heavily in media libraries and the workflows around them. Connecting that media more closely to editorial work should not mean replacing a MAM that is already doing its job.

At IBC, Iconik is one example of how that can work. Iconik combines a modern, cloud-native MAM with the search, metadata and collaboration capabilities newsrooms need to work efficiently across large and distributed media libraries. Those strengths complement what AP Storytelling is designed to do around the story.

For an Iconik customer, that means relevant media can come closer to the point where the journalist is already planning, writing and producing the story.

For other newsrooms, the broader point is the same.

We are also demonstrating work with other MAM partners at IBC, and the wider direction is to make AP Storytelling more extensible so specialist media systems can become part of the story workflow rather than another separate destination.

That is the Flexibility principle behind our wider strategy: fit the newsroom you already have. Bring your own data, connect with the tools you already use, and choose the deployment model that works for your organization.

A journalist stays with the story. Relevant media comes closer to the point where editorial decisions are being made. Editors get a more connected view of what is being produced without asking teams to abandon the specialist systems they already rely on.

Why this matters beyond one media library.

The pressure on newsrooms is moving in one direction. Teams are producing more versions of the same story, particularly more video, without necessarily adding more people to do the work.

That makes the gaps between systems increasingly expensive. Every extra search, repeated field and manual handoff takes time away from reporting, editing and judgment.

The opportunity is to reduce those handoffs by letting specialist tools work around the same story context. Iconik is an important example because media is central to modern publishing, but the larger idea goes further: a newsroom should be able to assemble the tools that work for its journalists while giving those tools enough shared context to work together intelligently.

That is what AI-native workflows built by the world’s most trusted newsroom means in practice. Journalists stay in control, while the systems around them do more of the searching, organizing and coordination.

At IBC 2026, the Iconik integration gives newsrooms a practical look at that direction: specialist tools working more closely around the story, without asking journalists to carry the workflow between them.
