AI is no longer a distant concept for media organizations, it’s rapidly becoming an essential tool for planning, producing, and publishing content in smarter, faster, and more strategic ways.
At the Associated Press, we’ve spent over a decade integrating AI into our newsroom workflows – not as a novelty, but as a strategic advantage. From automation and metadata enrichment to AI-assisted reporting and content integrity tools, our teams have been at the forefront of testing, refining, and scaling AI for real newsroom needs.
Now, we’re opening that experience to the wider industry.
Launching its next cohort on June 4, AI in the Workplace is a three-week course designed to give newsroom leaders, operational strategists, and editorial technologists the practical tools and strategic insight they need to navigate AI adoption, responsibly and effectively.
In partnership with Edmaker, this course distills AP’s hands-on experience with AI and pairs it with the expertise of our colleagues and collaborators who are actively shaping the future of journalism.
Newsrooms across the world are exploring AI, but many are still asking the same questions:
• How do we separate hype from real utility?
• What tools actually fit within our editorial and operational workflows?
• How do we adopt AI responsibly, while preserving journalistic standards and content integrity?
• And crucially how do we equip our teams to lead this transformation?
This course is built to answer exactly those questions.
Over the course of three weeks, participants will engage with live sessions, real-world demos, and guided discussions that cover:
· AI in Daily Workflows: Practical use cases for generative AI across planning, scripting, metadata, automation, and analysis
· Tool Demonstrations: Live walkthroughs of ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, newsroom automations and a hands-on intro to vibe coding
· Ethical Frameworks: Guidance on how to preserve content integrity and develop internal policies for responsible AI use
· Inside AP’s Journey: Insights from our own AI implementation, what we’ve learned, what’s worked, and what’s ahead
Sessions are led by AP and industry voices including Aimee Rinehart, Ernest Kung, Adriana Lacy, Aaron Jackson, Jason Smith, and others.
· Dates: June 4–18, 2025
· Live sessions: Wednesdays, 11:00–12:30 ET / 17:30–19:00 UK
· Format: Live online with recordings available for 60 days
· Tuition: $359 per participant (group and member discounts available)
This course is ideal for:
